About LED Therapy

LED light therapy at Aleera Skin Spa

What is LED light therapy?

LED (Light Emitting Diode) therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate the skin's own cellular processes. The technology has been researched since the 1990s and is now widely used in dermatology and skin clinics around the world.

LED technology produces a variety of light colours, each reaching a different wavelength depth — and the depth determines the outcome of the treatment.

How does it work?

Wavelengths of light penetrate the skin to different depths and interact with different cells. Red light, for example, has been shown in clinical studies to stimulate fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. Blue light interacts with the bacteria associated with acne, while other wavelengths can help reduce inflammation and support overall skin health.

Because LED therapy doesn't damage the skin, there's no redness, no peeling, and no downtime. You can head straight back to work or out for the evening.

What can LED therapy help with?

LED light therapy has been studied for a range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Active breakouts and acne-prone skin
  • Redness and inflammation
  • Loss of firmness and elasticity
  • Post-procedure healing and recovery

Evidence is strongest for red light's effects on collagen and skin texture, and for blue light's effects on acne. Other wavelengths complement these and are used to tailor treatments to individual skin needs.

What to expect from your treatment

Our LED pod uses 130 bulbs across multiple wavelengths, so we can tailor every facial to what your skin needs on the day.

Red light

The most extensively studied wavelength for skin rejuvenation. Penetrates deeply to support collagen production and help reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Blue light

Well-known for its role in managing acne. It targets the bacteria associated with breakouts and can be a useful tool for clearer, more balanced skin.

Yellow light

A gentler wavelength often used to help calm redness and support sensitive or reactive skin.

Green light

Used to address concerns around uneven skin tone. A popular complementary wavelength in multi-colour LED protocols.

Purple light

Combines elements of blue and red — used for skin dealing with both breakouts and early signs of ageing.

Cyan light

A calming wavelength used to soothe inflammation and help comfort irritated skin.

Is it right for me?

LED therapy is suitable for most skin types and tones, and pairs well with our other facial treatments. That said, it isn't recommended for everyone — if you're pregnant, taking photosensitising medication, or have certain skin conditions, please mention this when booking so we can advise.

If you're not sure whether it's the right fit for your skin goals, get in touch— we'll happily talk it through.

Glow without the downtime
